The Subjective Nature Of Love - 999 Words

If beauty is subjective, then anything that I believe is beautiful is indeed beautiful. This implies that there is no standard definition of the word â€Å"beauty.† Its definition is tied to my attitude. Using the subjective nature of love leads us to a judgment of taste, which has no logic. The subjective nature of love depends on one’s taste and feeling about beauty. For instance, our judgment about a rose flower or early morning sunshine could be different because of the subjective definition of beauty. It is also important to note that beauty would not make sense without subjective meaning. The mention of beauty depends on perceivers. People like what they see as in the case a beautiful woman. We often regard other people’s taste because they see what we also see. Although we may differ in political, moral, and ethical issues, what people perceive as beautiful has a profound response. 2.Classical theorists hold that beauty could be achieved by producing different objective proportions. This classical view of beauty is based on internal process. For instance, a women’s body has different proportion that joins to create beauty. Proportions imply the suitable display of the details of beauty. The display must be physical to be desirable. The different details of beauty come together in a harmonized sense. It also implies a graceful semblance, which is a suitable display of the details of beauty. 3.Plato’s concept of beauty expresses beauty as a perfect unity in the realShow MoreRelatedEssay about Categorical Imperative1517 Words   |  7 Pagesthe subjective principle and rule of people. A House Divided - 768 Words

â€Å"House Divided† Essay Discuss the relevance today of Abraham Lincoln’s statement, â€Å"A house divided against itself cannot stand.† Abraham Lincoln’s statement in his 1858 speech that â€Å"A house divided against itself cannot stand,† is an extremely true statement that is as relevant today as it was when he originally stated it in 1858. Lincoln made this statement when he was accepting his nomination by the Republican Party to become the United States senator for the state of Illinois. Lincoln was attempting to distinguish himself from his opponent for the seat in the Senate, Stephen Douglas, who was a major supporter of the doctrine of popular sovereignty. Lincoln disagreed with Douglas because he believed that the United States could not†¦show more content†¦When two business partners are in disagreement about their business policies, the business will fail with no proper guidance. Two friends with seriously incompatible qualities or moral codes will not be able to maintain their friendship. Nothing can survive without unity, which is why slavery was unable to prevail. One specific example of the validity of Lincoln’s statement is the Civil Rights movement of the mid twentieth century. The Civil Rights movement was an extension of the slavery issue of a century earlier. Black people were still not being treated as equal to whites in the southern part of the country. Because there was much division on the issue, there was political controversy during that time. However, just as with slavery, blacks eventually received equal rights and treatment. Another example of Lincoln’s statement being applicable many years after it was said is communism in Russia. Communism and socialism in Russia eventually failed because it always had a clear winner and loser. One party was greatly benefitted, while the other party was severely disadvantaged. Because the country was so divided on the issue, communism collapsed in the Soviet Union in 1991. Purchasing to Cash Disbursements-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Expenditure Cycle Purchasing to Cash Disbursements. Answer: Introduction Expenditure Cycle may be defined as repetitive process of business activities such as purchase and payment of goods and services. In the expenditure cycle the information that there is a need for purchase of raw materials flows from various departments such as inventory control or purchase departments and after the receipt of the material the information flows back to those sources. Similarly the expenses incurred shall flow from general ledger and reporting function for updating the same in management reports. Minimization of the expenditure of acquiring and maintaining the goods and services is its primary objective. Expenditure Cycle Information System For designing the accounting information system both suppliers revenue and buyers expenditure linkages are significant. Conversely it can be said that when company redesign its revenue cycle, the customer has opportunity to redesign its expenditure cycle. The process most organizations use in which a system first creates a purchase order then the same is being approved and then the inventory master file searches the appropriate supplier and then purchase order is being send to supplier via EDI , the department which is receiving the order has access to open the purchase order and verify the same. Threats Controls 1. Inaccurate or invalid master file. Employing Data integrity controls. Restrict access to master file. Proper Segregation of duties. 2. Unlawful disclosure of sensitive information Controls established to limit the view of sensitive information. Limiting employees capabilities to specific information. Encryption of sensitive information. 3. Obliteration of master file. Implementing disaster recovery procedures. 4. Poor performance. Making managerial reports time to time. To overcome this threat an ERP system should be established. It consists of cases in which one is production, second is testing and development and third is backup. Its reporting capabilities will update when threat from poor performance accrues. Ordering material, supplies and services It is the major activity which involves identifying the what, when and how much to purchaser from a supplier. This approach is known as Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) in which an optimum order size is calculated so as to minimize the ordering carrying and stock out costs. Where, Ordering costs -costs associated with processing of purchase transactions. Carrying Costs costs for holding inventory. Stock out costs It occurs due to shortages in inventory. EOQ answers the question of how much to order and when to order is decided by Reorder Point. This point will be decided on the level of safety stock to meet unexpected demands and delivery time at which the stock is available. Since the EOQ method is not significantly saving costs and earning is negligible the companies have shifted to Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Just in time System (JIT). MRP refers to accuracy in forecasting the needs of inventory so that inventory costs are reduced whereas JIT refers to minimizing the purchase and production of goods rather than forecasting the same. Threats Controls 1. Inaccurate Inventory records Adopt Perpetual Inventory Method. Use of information technology. Bar coding techniques to be used. Use of RFID tags. Periodic Inventory counts should be done. 2. Purchasing unnecessary items. Supervisors should be employed for actual demand. Choosing suppliers Once the purchase has been identified, the suppliers are being selected where the following factors such as price, quality of material and deliveries are to be taken care of. For authenticating the supplier purchase order is created which is an electronic document in which the supplier formally accepts buy and sell of products at predetermined prices. Threats Controls 1. Inflation in prices. Price of regular items should be stored in Data file and reviewed accordingly. Designing Budgets. 2. Low cost items may lead to inferior quality. Experienced suppliers with competitive pricing. Receiving Responsibility of receiving department is to accept deliveries from suppliers. It reports to warehousing manager who is responsible for storage of goods. The receiving report document is prepared which contains each every details of purchase. Threats Controls 1. Deliveries of unordered goods. Accept deliveries only of items which are written in purchase order. 2. Counting Errors. Use Bar code RFID techniques. ERP system. 3. Inventory Theft. No physical access to inventory. Strict Documentation. 4. Verification of services received Audit. Budgetary Controls. Approving supplier invoices The accounts department approves payment to the suppliers. A voucher package is considered which consists of an invoice and its supporting documents. There are 2 ways for processing supplier invoices: Voucher System - An additional voucher is created called as disbursement voucher. Non Voucher system In this system as soon as the payment is done the account is marked as paid and package is removed. Threats Controls 1. Mistakes in invoices. Verification ERS. Restriction imposed Proper documentation. 2. Accounts payable wrongly credited. Verification. Data entry controls. Reconciliation. Cash Disbursements The cashier is responsible for making payment to the suppliers. Segregation of duties is done. Threats Controls 1. Unable to take advantages of early payment. Invoices made timely. Cash flow budgets are prepared. 2. Payment made for undelivered items. Verification of documents by both departments. Prepare budgets.

Law of Business Organization Capital Maintenance

Question: Discuss about the Law of Business Organizationfor Capital Maintenance. Answer: The Doctrine of Capital Maintenance Capital maintenance is a significant principle of corporate law. It stipulates that limited companies are restricted from making any such payments out of the capital reserve of the company to the disadvantage of the creditors of the limited company[1]. The statutory provisions laid down in the Company Act necessitate the companies to exercise control upon the payments out of the capital reserves. The capital of a company includes all the money price of the assets obtained by the company from its shareholders in exchange for the shares of the company. This is regarded as an imperative financial resource for the companies[2]. The doctrine was developed through a number of case laws in England. It was recognized for the first time in the case of Trevor v Whitworth where it was held that the concept of capital maintenance is imperative for the companies as it protects the rights of the creditors who has made contribution in the capital of the company[3]. The contribution by the creditors act as a guarantee that they are entitled to repayment of the capital contributed. The common law rules states that a company is is permitted to return its capital to the investors or its shareholders following the lawful methods, that is, by way of reduction of the capital reserve of the company or by way of dividends[4]. The Company Act 2006 deals with the various distributive means by which a company can make payments to the shareholders. Section 135(2) (c) of the Act affirms that share buy backs, reduction in the capital, dividends are some of the distributive means a company may adopt to make payments to the shareholders[5]. The principle of capital maintenance has been incorporated in the corporation law of Australia and remains to be a part of the corporate law today. Section 256 A of the Corporation Act 2001 stipulates that a company must guard the interest of the creditors and its shareholders and retain the balance between the creditors necessities and the members contentment of restricted liability. The purpose of reduction in the capital reserve of the company is to ensure the safety of the creditors[6]. The court may intervene to reduce the capital to protect the claims of the creditors and ensure that the reduction retains the balance between the different classes of shareholders of the company. However, the capital reduction method has been criticized in the case Aveling Barford v Perion Ltd (1989) to be time-consuming and expensive. The doctrine prohibits the company to repay the capital it receives for issuing its shares to its members except under particular situations[7]. However, the statutory provisions of the doctrine have been modified keeping in view the growing demands and necessities of contemporary business. In the UK, the the doctrine was modified in 1980 where the the company was permitted to buy back the shares as stated under section 684-723 of the Companies Act 2006. In Australia, the Corporations Act 2001 incorporated provisions under section section 257 A-257 J which allows the company to purchase its own shares provided the buying back of shares is approved by the shareholders and that they are not prejudiced[8]. The doctrine has been criticized to be an outdated method and but scope of future modifications in the present capital maintenance regime must be made to ensure better functioning of the business organizations. Upon failing to find him he suddenly remembered what he had previously told Lennie to do if he ever found himself in trouble, he had told him to hide in the brush until he came to find him. As he stood there leaning against the barn door, staring at the ground as if in a daze, wondering what to do next, the rest of the workers raced into the barn having been alerted by Candy. Curley who was wondering what all the fuss was about jogged towards the crowd of men only to find to his horror the body of his dead wife. Before heading off in Lennies direction he pocketed all the money Candy had given to him as a contribution to his dream of buying a place of his own. He knew he wasnt going to return and wished there was some way he could make it up to Candy but sadly there was no time. George and the workers, led by Curley, set off to find Lennie and to bring him to justice for what he had done. When the party arrived at the suspected location of Lennie, they were all split up and a massive search had begun. George knew where Lennie was so he rushed towards the spot where he was hiding. As he had predicted in his mind, Lennie was sitting there like a little child, oblivious to what was going on around him. George grabbed Lennies shoulder and shook him up to attract his attention. Lennie looked up, happy to see Georges face. Having got his attention George immediately began to explain to Lennie what he had done and because of it, that they now had to flee. Just as he was doing so he heard a disturbance in the bushes and immediately turned round to see what it was. There stood Slim, staring at the both of them shaking his head at pity for the both of them. George knew what had to be done but pleaded to Slim to let them both go. He explained to Slim about Lennies current position and that he would never be able to survive if they were to put him in prison. Slim being a very righteous man was also very sympathetic  towards them. He reluctantly let them go and gave them his best wishes for the future and that they would be able to live out their dream in the not too distant future. Encouraged by Slims words George grabbed hold of Lennie and they both rushed across the river over to the other side. As they were doing so they could hear the footsteps in the bushes of the other men as they rushed to where Slim was standing. Lennie turned his head to see what was happening but George told him not to do that but instead keep looking towards the future and to never look back. Lennie did just that and as they ran towards the sunset Lennie said something to George that brought a tear to his eye. He said in his child like voice, George you are truly my best friend! George paused and replied in a soft voice, Youre mine as well, I would never do anything to hurt you and just you remember that. .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 , .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .postImageUrl , .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 , .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9:hover , .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9:visited , .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9:active { border:0!important; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9:active , .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9 .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u379c5a710faaeb65fbba053dec69bec9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Gothis Elementa In Jane Eyre EssayNo one knows for sure what happened after that. What It Means When Congress Is In Recess

What It Means When Congress Is In Recess A recess of the U.S. Congress or the Senate is a temporary break in proceedings. It can be within the same day, overnight, or for a weekend or period of days. It is done instead of an adjournment, which is a more formal close of proceedings. An adjournment for more than three days requires approval by both the House and the Senate, according to the Constitution, while recesses do not have such restrictions. Congressional Recesses A Congressional session runs for one year, from January 3 to sometime in December. But Congress does not meet each and every business day of the year. When Congress has recessed, business has been put on hold. For example, Congress often holds business sessions only on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so that legislators can visit their constituents over a long weekend that includes a work day. At such times, Congress has not adjourned but is, instead, recessed. Congress also recesses the week of a federal holiday. The Legislative Reorganization Act of 1970 stipulated a 30-day recess each August, except in time of war. Representatives and Senators use recess periods in many ways. Often, they are hard at work during a recess, studying legislation, attending meetings and hearings, meeting with interest groups, raising campaign funds, and visiting their district. They are not required to stay in Washington, DC, during a recess and may take the opportunity to return to their districts. During longer recesses, they may log some actual vacation time. Some are dissatisfied with the short work week typical of Congress, where many are only in town for three days of the week. There have been suggestions to impose a five-day workweek and give one week out of four off to visit their district. Recess Appointments During a recess, a President can execute a pocket-veto or make recess appointments. This ability became a bone of contention during the 2007-2008 session. Democrats controlled the Senate and they  wanted to prevent President George W. Bush from making recess appointments at the end of his term of office. Their tactic was to have pro forma sessions every three days, so they were never in recess long enough for him to exercise his recess appointment power. This tactic then was used by the House of Representatives in 2011. This time, it was the Republicans in the majority who used pro forma sessions to stay in session and prevent the Senate from adjourning for more than three days (as is provided in the Constitution). President Barack Obama was prevented from approving recess appointments. The case went to the Supreme Court when President Obama appointed three members of the National Labor Relations Board in January 2012 despite these pro forma sessions held every few days. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that this was not allowed. They said that the Senate is in session when it says its in session. Four of the justices would have restricted recess appointment powers only during the period between the end of a yearly session and the beginning of the next one.

Core Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Core - Essay Example Hence the sincere political beliefs of the Americans in neutrality were overridden by the compulsions of the economy. It was a time when the politicians spoke of democracy and prosperity. This prosperity was visible in the growing incomes and higher living standards of people in Europe and England as well as the US. The phenomenon arose from the wealth generated mainly from the nations of Asia and Africa and at their cost. Hence there was also a conflict brewing between the haves and the have nots. The notion of uniting the exploiter and the exploited under the guise of a united democratic nation provided a safety valve to douse the fires of class conflict. Capitalism needed to create an artificial unity between the rich and poor in order to put an end to class conflict and war and the unity necessary to fight off the aggressor provided this. The American Dream refers to the ideals of freedom, equality and opportunity available to every American. It also refers to the personal happiness and material comfort sought by individuals in the US. This dream seems to have been seriously impacted by the laws passed during WWI. The espionage act seriously restricted freedom of speech and the draft law is against personal freedom of choice. During and after the war there was a conscious effort to repress socialism that had begun to take root. Although the espionage act was meant to apply only during war, it has been in force for a long time as America has consistently been at war since the Korean war of 1950. The American dream refers to the opportunity the American people had to live their lives in happiness through the route of hard work, and the opportunities to discover their strengths and find success as a result of the choices they made in life. Laws like the draft law that impacted the right to freedom of choice and the espionage act that clamped down on freedom of speech that was part of the American Dream was

Business Ethics - Article Example In this way they make money. The SEC put out a warning that they will be looking closing at hedge funds that make over 3%. Is it right for the SEC to do this? There are a bunch of moral questions involved in this issue. One could place moral questions on the role of hedge funds. Is it right for hedge funds to purchase stocks expecting to make a profit because they know the stock's value is overly price. 2. The SEC should not put out such warnings because they will be capping the profit initiative, the ability of people to make a profit whenever they see it. This sounds more like a right under our free market system. Another argument is that it is not possible to truely regulate the market without be unfair to those who have made an earnest buck in the market. Some investors may be lucky, or some hedge fund operators may have done good due diligence research and they should be awarded whatever profit that comes their way. 3. The SEC should put out such warnings. Hedge funds have been known to create create market changes based on pure speculation, resulting in market busts where a lot of people lose their money.

Report on The Correlation of physical strength to perfomance on Essay

Report on The Correlation of physical strength to perfomance on physically demanding jobs - Essay Example Physically demanding jobs like those that can be obtained in the armed forces, emergency rescue, construction, heavy-equipment industries and the like require a high level of physical capabilities. Occupations that involve long and cyclical duties such as lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing can potentially cause cumulative trauma disorders such as â€Å"back pain, sprains, strains, carpal tunnel syndrome, and neck pain† (Nindl & Sharp, 2011). Understandably, when workers are blighted by physical traumas and injuries, they become less effective in carrying out their duties and responsibilities; hence, it could have a potentially negative effect on the job performance on the whole, and eventually on the entire organization. So, this paper shall elaborate on the correlation between physical strength of workers and job performance on physically demanding jobs. In order to clearly and accurately demonstrate a decisive inference on whether a correlation exists or not, this paper shall focus on two measures: arm strength and grip strength. Data Set No. 18 S. No. GRIP x ARM y RATINGS z SIMS Mean Score (x,y, z) Mean Score (x, y) 1 100.5 51 30.2 0.77 60.57 75.75 2 95 64.5 36 -1.97 65.17 79.75 3 75.5 57.5 42.1 0.35 58.37 66.50 6 54.5 35 39.8 -1.68 43.10 44.75 7 131 86 37 1.03 84.67 108.50 8 147 71 57.2 0.53 91.73 109.00 9 104 47.5 31.2 1 60.90 76.00 10 104.5 69 38 -1.43 70.50 86.75 11 120 100 52.4 1.24 90.8 110.00 12 128.5 93.5 46.4 3.16 89.47 111.00 13 29 19 28 -4.17 25.33 24.00 14 128.5 88 57 0.91 91.17 108.25 15 98.5 65.5 29.6 -1.29 64.53 82.00 Solution By simply taking the arm and grip endurance at a particular length of time, arm and grip strength have been measured and tallied for analysis. For the first calculation of the mean score, that is, (x, y, z), ratings have been included in order to identify the significance of ratings in determining the correlation between arm and grip strength and job performance. Nevertheless, to find if ratings do have a subs tantial effect on the overall job performance, a second mean score has been measured. Interpretation Scatter plots could have been utilized in order to graphically display the relationships between the strength scores and ratings, and how the two measures relate with ratings and work simulation scores. But, the table itself can already tell enough that participants with lower strength scores have lower ratings from their employers, which could mean that they performed less effectively that their counterparts. By simply analysing the data, one can automatically conclude that, indeed, there is a correlation between physical strength on performance on physically demanding jobs. Take for instance the comparison of the mean scores and sims between participant 1 and participant 13, participant has got a better simulation and mean score as compared to participant 13 despite the fact that participant 1 got a considerably low ratings. Furthermore, there is not much relationship between ratin gs and physical strengths. Some participants who have higher physical strength do necessarily have higher performance ratings from their employers. Such is the case of participant 12 and 15; nonetheless, it

In order to improve the level of training that was provided to the local farmers, Nestlà © decided to cooperate with the Shuangcheng government. After developing a long time, Nestlà © choose another partnership with Yinlu. Later, Nestlà © chose joint venture with Yinlu and Hsu Fu Chi to strengthen itself. Pauline is the leader of the group and she is responsible for the section III and the second question in the section IV. As the leader of the group, Pauline also writes the executive summary to totally introduce the whole paper. Quinn is responsible for the section I and the first question in the section II. Mike who is the only boy in our group is responsible for the remaining five questions in the section II. Serena and Hathaway are both responsible for the section IV. The former writes the front four questions except the second one and the latter introduces the eventual four questions. All of our group members write the conclusion together, because we feel that all of us should know what general content about our work is and we can finish the conclusion better with discussion. We decide this plan for the project, because Quinn as well as Mike is patient, so they are suitable for some detailed q uestions, such as history of Nestlà ©. Pauline is good at organizing and combining the information, so she write about the form Nestlà © came into China, which is connected to the current condition of Nestlà © in China. Serena and Hathaway can do a good job in researching, so they write the organization structure. In order to be fair, each group member writes about three to four big questions. Section I starts at page 3. Three sections left start respectively at page 6, 8 and 10. We all feel very happy to finish the paper in this way. We also use the executive summary to tell reader the general information about our company and the arrangement of our paper. We all sincerely hope that readers will like our paper about Nestlà ©. Section I: History of  Nestlà © In the mid 1860s, Nestlà © was run in Switzerland by Henri Nestlà ©. At the very beginning, Nestlà © was found to help those mothers who have problems in breastfeeding babies. Henri realized the need for baby formulas and decided to create this kind of new products. He mixed cows milk, flour and sugar up to provide babies with necessary nutrition. Farine Lactà ©e Henri Nestlà © was the name of its first product. It saved a premature babys life and soon marketed in Europe. (English Tea Store, English Tea Store, , October 30, 2012) The Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company, whose founders were Americans Charles and George Page, merged with Nestlà © after they had been fierce competitors for a long time. Finally, they formed the Nestlà © and Anglo-Swiss Milk Company together. (Nestlà ©, Nestlà ©, , October 27, 2012) Heiko Schipper, managing director of Nestlà © Food Beverage, Greater China region claimed that they were planning to increase their investment in China and treated coffee business as one of the key growth engines. (CHINADAILY, Li Fngfang, , October 27, 2012) Take coffee as an example. As we all know, Brazil is famous for coffee. At the outset, Nestlà © developed soluble coffee to help Brazilian farmers solve problems about hardship and crop waste. This is an early example of innovation and sustainable development for Nestlà © Company. (Nescafe, Nescafe, , October 30, 2012) Nestlà © expands into China because of the potential of markets in China. The Chinese coffee market has increased 15 percent annually during these years, far higher than the global average. Xiong Xiangru, secretary-general of the Yunnan Coffee Association, predicted that Chinas coffee consumption will reach 1 trillion Yuan annually in 10 years, and the mature market could be worth as much as 3 trillion Yuan by 2030. This may encourage Nestlà © to come to China to a great extent. (CHINADAILY, Li Fngfang, , October 30, 2012) In 1905   the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company merged with Nestlà © and this is Nestlà ©s first expansion. (Nestlà ©, Nestlà ©, , October 27, 2012) World War II has greatly helped popularize Nescafe. Before the war, initial launch of Nescafe was slow. Nescafe coffee became a very common beverage for American servicemen in Europe and Asia when USA entered the war. Coffee helps people relaxed and gives them energy when they feel tired. This kind of amazing beverage became popular very soon. (Nestlà ©, Nestlà ©, , October 27, 2012) In China, sales have grown around 20%, which shows the potential of developing economies. However, Nestlà © has been losing market share and this may be changed by purchasing. Take Pfizer as an example. Nestlà © bought Pfizer to be more competitive. Reports showed that about 85% of sales for Pfizers business came from developing economies and about one-third of the Pfizer units revenue is from China. The acquisition of Pfizers business which came at a premium price will go a long way to addressing that China problem by adding about $800 million in sales in that country people related said about that. (Msn MONEY, Jim J. Jubak,  , October 27, 2012) Nestlà © has many manufacturing factories oversea. It obeys all rules and standards, such as ISO 14001 (environmental management), OHSAS 18001 (occupational health and safety) and ISO 22000 (food safety management systems). The company controls all parts of manufacturing. That doesnt mean that we will not co-manufacture where there are advantages to doing so, such as speed to market or access to technology, McIntosh says, but we invariably find that we are much more cost-effective in-house than out-of-house. (FOOD PROCESSING, Bob Sperber, Plant Operations Editor, , October 30, 2012) Nestlà © set its first Chinese RD center in Shanghai in purpose to open Asian markets. We continue to invest in our RD capability in Asia, because we know this brings us closer to local consumers, and gives us a greater understanding of the raw materials used to make the products they enjoy, says Johannes Baensch, head of Nestlà ©s research and development division. (Tce, Richard Jansen, , October 30, 2012) Now Nestlà © has companies in many places, such as Guangdong, Shandong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Fujian, Anhui, Beijing, Sichuan and so on. It has been expanding steps by steps. (Food China net, Food China net, http://www.foodchinanet.com/supplier/Nestlà ©/>, October 28, 2012) Section II:  Nestlà © Expansion Roland Dà ©cor vet, the food giants China chief executive, said that in spite of facing its own economic slowdown, offers Nestlà © long-term growth opportunities. As now, middle class is playing more important roles in society and this definitely leads to increasing need for dairy products and on-the-go foods. China is a country with a large popularity and it can provide Nestlà © with larger markets they dont assume before. Hsu Fu Chi, a famous candy company, Nestlà © bought a 60% stake from it to bet on big growth in China. This can be powerful evidence that predicts China is a part of a bigger globalization strategy for Nestlà ©. The purpose of the company is to take more shares in Chinese markets and make its globalization conduct well. (THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, LAURIE BURKITT and JOHN REVILL, , October 30, 2012) Nestlà © is one of the largest food and beverage company in the world. There are more than 450 manufacturing facilities in over 80 countries and Nestlà © markets its products in 130 countries across the world. Nestlà © have planed to disease-resistant coffee plants to famers who are in many developing countries such as Mexico, Indonesia by private institutions because he wants to produce Raw materials and sell their product easily in these countries. In 60 countries, Nestlà © has more than 400 factories and employs abundant employees of local person. Nestlà © has expanded almost the entire world and it is a super company. (Facts and figures Nescafe Plan, Nestlà ©, page 1, November 8, 2012) As a transnational enterprise who has a long-term development plan, the most important development strategy for Nestlà © is to find the market which has development potential. In 1987 of the China, the tide of reform and opening up is slowly forward, society as a whole business environment is in a vigorous development of the embryonic stage. Because of its vast size, many Chinese provinces, and each district economy development is not balanced, protectionism, these elements for any foreign enterprise especially transnational enterprise, is a strong resistance. In order to cultivate the relationship with Chinese local government and citizen, Nestlà © constructed a new farming institute in Heilongjiang province. Nestlà © agreed to support technical assistance and train for local famers. Nestlà © want to get win-win by working with famers in this way. (Nestlà © leads dairy development in China with new training institute, Nestlà ©, , November 8, 2012) For Nestlà © who has rich experience, how to break the market barrier and integrate into local market is very important. Nescafe knew that if he wants to root in china firmly, he must consider how to seek the economic benefits to the local people and win their favor in order to solve the problem of Nescafe that it can have milk enough, Nestlà © sent a team of experts from Europe. Not only did it establish a collection network and acquisition system to encourage farmers enthusiasm, but also he taught farmers about dairy technology and milking technology. This is a very difficult thing at that time and it is also more difficult than training a qualified engineer for Nestlà ©. In this way, not only did Nestlà © solve the problem of raw materials supplement, but also it provided a stable daily income for local farmers, there are many farmers and their families living have been fundamentally improved due to its help. The development of ways that could assist the local economic develo pment and help farmers to improve the income which got the Chinese government high approval, meanwhile it helped Nescafe win a good social image. (Nestlà ©s management of dairy supply chain in China, Nestlà ©, , November 8, 2012) Chinas coffees consumption is few at that time, so Nescafe had the problems of supplement at the beginning. Traditional Chinese didnt have the habit to drink coffee. With natural, healthy concept winning the support among the people, tea beverage grows steadily in china. Nestlà ©s opponent is not the coffee sugar , but Chinese traditional tea. When Nescafes instant coffee was introduced to China, Nescafe planed to cultivate the Chinese habit of drinking coffee by advertisement and a variety of means in face of Chinese traditional tea drinking habits. It intended to attract a group of young to choose coffee by Propagandizing that drinking coffee is a kind of fashion, the trend, successfully, and then Nescafe coffee could increase his sales volume in the market. Nescafe admits that he has enough patience to cultivate market and improve product quality. At the same time, in order to suit ones measures to local conditions, Nestlà © designed promotional strategy that minimized the SP ac tivity, and turn to advertising and public relations, to establish long-term consumption preference. For example, in Shanghai, Nescafe Company is enthusiast to support university community activities, such as theatrical festival land English corner. The company is also willing to make special subject report in University and give company information and culture to students. (The Nestlà © People Development Review, Nestlà ©, page 37, November 8, 2012) Mr. Dà ©cor vet who is Chairman of Nestlà © (China) thought that the Chinese conceptualize food and westerns have much difference, and Nestlà © must respect Chinese brands unique qualities and learn from them in order that company can integrate into local market quickly. He also thought that they need to teach farmers about dairy technology and milking technology because it can help them to cultivate the relationship with local government and Resident. (CELBS, June, , November 8, 2012) Section III:  Nestlà © in China When Nestlà © first came into china in 1987, it chose Shuangcheng which is located in Heilongjiang province to develop itself. However, at that time, Nestlà © didnt have much power, so it chose partnership. In order to improve the level of training that was provided to the local farmers, Nestlà © decided to cooperate with the Shuangcheng government. In this way, Nestlà © could make much progress and improve its service and the quality of products, which can attract more consumers. They all knew that good training can improve peoples overall quality which plays an important role in team work. Considering that local farmers lacked money, Nestlà © provided economic assistance for them and distributed many free milking machines to them. Due to this help, local farmers didnt need to manufacture dairy products with hand, which improved the efficiencies and effectiveness. This measure really did well to local farmers and improved the speed and quality of producing dairy products. Nestl à © made much effort to develop the rural area during years, and the company has also provided credit guarantees to farmers which ensure the potential to grow farmers businesses. Therefore, local farmers were all full of energy to expand dairy products and were confident that they can make success. The partnership work between Nestlà © and Shuangcheng government is called Creating Shared Value, which tried to make profits for the companys shareholders and those communities where it operates at the same time. During decades, Nestlà © has made Shuangcheng play the important role in the dairy districts. (Nestlà © leads dairy development in China with new training institute, Nestlà ©, , October 30, 2012f) After cooperating with Shuangcheng government, Nestlà © has made many profits, and it also helped the local city develop a lot. Nestlà © didnt want to stop there, so it looked for another target and finally chose another partnership with a Chinese family-owned firm Yinlu. As Yinlu has a long history in China, it has already got a good reputation. Moreover, Yinlu established a significant market for ready-to-drink peanut milk as well as canned rice porridge in China. Nestlà © wanted to combine its technology with Yinlus reputation to make much progress. Therefore, Nestlà © declared that it had taken some stake in Yinlu. Considering that Yinlu is a co-manufacturer for ready-to-drink Nescafe coffee in China, Nestlà © has decided to cooperate with it and achieved successful achievement with Yinlu before this agreement. The CEO of Nestlà © considered that the partnership between two companies would bring healthy, affordable and tasty products to all consumers in China. Of course, th e foregoing goal must be based not only on Yinlus entrepreneurship, product expertise, and consumer understanding, but also on Nestlà ©s innovation and renovation capabilities. The chairman Chen of Yinlu thought that the partnership represents a very significant landmark which is in Yinlus long-standing aspiration to be a typical and favorite brand for customers. As Nestlà © comes into China over twenty years and cooperates with local companies in China, it operates 23 factories and employs 14,000 people, which really do well for Chinese. (Nestlà © to enter partnership with Chinese food company Yinlu, Nestlà ©, , October 30, 2012) However, partnership was not the only option of Nestlà © to come into China. As Nestlà © develops many years in China, it chose partnership at first and then it expanded for joint venture. Nestlà © uses two RD units in Xiamen and Dongguan to support its joint ventures with Chinese food companies Yinlu and Hsu Fu Chi. Moreover, the unit in Xiamen will specialize in ready-to-drink beverages and will support Yinlu. Hsu Fu Chi is a famous snack-selling company in China, and it enjoys the large popularity among all ages in China. Therefore, Nestlà © and Hsu Fu Chi had got much benefit from the joint venture. Two companies looked forward to the long-term cooperation. Head of RD in Nestlà © thought that Nestlà © would continue to invest in their RD because of this program bringing them closer to local consumers who are very important for their future market. The investment in Xiamen and Dongguan reflects its long-term commitment to improve nutrition and food science in China. The join t venture helps Nestlà © become more popular among Chinese and now almost every young person knows the watchword of Nestlà © which says Good Food, Good Life. (Nestlà © strengthens research and development capability in China, Nestlà ©, , October 30, 2012) Nestlà © makes the decision that it chooses partnership and joint venture to come into China, and these decisions are based on some considerable factors. China has a large amount of persons and its economy wasnt developed fast in 1980s. As this current condition in China, Nestlà © decided to expand its investment and development. Therefore, Nestlà © decided to exploit this potential market. However, at that time, Chinese couldnt be used to and accept Nestlà ©s products. In this way, Nestlà © chose partnership and joint venture, from which it can be easily accepted by local Chinese and it can improve its technology and taste of products. Nestlà © believed that its partnership and joint venture would get success. Whats more, Nestlà © will go further in China. (Cereal partners worldwide transcript, Nestlà ©, page 3, October 30, 2012) Section IV: Organization Structure in China The strategy is the most important contingency. Key accounts of Nestlà © Dry Grocery are few key distributors. Yinlu and Ready-to-drink coffee are high point of sales coverage, and distribute mostly to lower-tier cities. The direct distribution of Hsu Fu Chi is pick mix and impulse model. (Our partnerships have enhanced Nestlà ©s capability, Nestlà ©, page 10, October 29, 2012) Besides, the human resources are also the most important contingency. (Nestlà © China hires 1,500 for new bouillon factory, Xieli Lee, Singapore, , October 29, 2012) Yes, I think it is organized in the best way. The partnerships have drastically changed the capabilities of Nestlà ©s with Yinlu, Hsu Fu Chi and so on. They set direct relationship with local farmers and make a unique dairy collection model. Besides, they make the world-class production and processing, and apply the latest technology and safety standards. All of these actions are based on their attention to task significance. (Nestlà ©s management of dairy supply chain in China, Nestlà ©, ,) October 30, 2012 As a manger of Nestlà © Company, in order to increase the number of tasks for a given job to reduce boredom, he can increase motivation by asking employees to do more sound counter-intuitive. The job can be enlarged. In order to increase the degree of responsibility a worker has over a job and increase workers involvement. A manager can divided employees into departments. When workers typically specialize in one area and the manager instead pitch in wherever their help is needed, the job can be enriched. At last, active management of the enrichment and enlargement process will achieve the greatest return. The job of a manager can be enlarged and enriched. Nestlà © Company uses a matrix structure. The organizational structure groups people and resources by function and product. Each employee has two bosses- functional manager and product manager. The structure is very flexible and can respond rapidly to the need for change. As we can see, Nestlà ©s Company as a decentralized organization allows its subordinate organizations to enjoy a relatively high-level of autonomy. It makes major strategy decisions at the headquarter level, and daily operations are left up to subordinate organizations to derive and implement. (Organizational Chart Nestlà © TheOfficialBoard, Theofficialboard, , October 29, 2012) Some other organizational structures are greater efficiency or effectiveness. Firstly, I think the move to a product team structure can lead to greater efficiency or effectiveness. The members are permanently assigned to the team and empowered to bring a product to market. The great strength of a product team structure is that this structure avoids two people with two different ideas, since people always take different opinions on the same issue and it may sometimes cause a lot of conflicts. The weaknesses of matrix structure the Nestlà © in China uses is that it demands functional and product team bosses. So the product team structure solves the problem efficiency. A product team structure, with one manager in charge of the entire process, generally reduces a d cut down the conflicts between managers. The team remains focused on the product rollout, with the manager removing obstacles from the staff members path. Besides, a functional organization which is included in a product group can share information about its particular discipline. Whats more, cross-fu nctional team is composed of a group of managers from different, so all of the members have a chance to grow within their functional area. Each employ can take more managerial roles and play the better role in a product team. In this way, staff members work together, chasing for the same goal and finishing the same product, and the job can be done quite well. Secondly, I think the move to a Hybrid structure can lead to greater efficiency or effectiveness. The structure of a large organization that has many divisions a simultaneously uses many different organizational structures. Manager can choose the best structure that can lead to the company more effective and efficient. There are many structures, like functional structure, geographic structure and so on. As the worlds biggest food company, the factories and markets of Nestlà © are settled up the entire world. In China, there have been 21 factories now. Different areas have different situations. So the company should divide different structures for each city in China. The ability to break a large organization into smaller units makes it easier to manage. For an example, in Chinas local market, Yihaodian, has grown rapidly and built up an amazing supply chain network in a short time. As the largest B2C online supermarket in China, it won the title of the most popular mall and the most popular food beverage mall of the year at 2011-2012 the second China top retail network selection list award this year in Beijing. As the new chain, if Nestlà © just use the same structure of Hsu Fu Chi or Yinlu, the chain may be not work well. So it is important to choose the best structure for each of the special chain. Whats more, as the worlds biggest food company, there are many challenges. The company need have the ability to adjust each structure for each chain when meet some emergencies and choose the best structure to meet challenges. In my opinion, the move to a Hybrid structure can lead to greater efficiency or effectiveness.

The Sound and the Fury :: Essays Papers

About The Sound and the Fury The Sound and the Fury, published in October of 1929, was Faulkner's fourth novel, and clearly his first work of genius. Now considered to be one of the strongest American contributions to the fiction of high modernism, it has generated countless critical interpretations. In writing the novel, Faulkner experienced a creative absorption and passion that he was never to forget. He said of â€Å"The Sound and the Fury†, "It's the book I feel tenderest towards. I couldn't leave it alone, and I never could tell it right, though I tried hard and would like to try again, though I'd probably fail again." The novel tells the story, from four different perspectives, of the disintegration of a Southern family. The father is unfriendly and passive, and though he clearly loves his children, he drinks himself to death. The invalid mother has no love for her children and continuously demands that she herself be taken care of. Benjy, the mentally retarded son of whom his mother is ashamed, is castrated after he begins to exhibit sexual behavior. Quentin, the troubled and romantic son, goes off to Harvard to fulfill his mother's lifelong wish and commits suicide there. Caddy, the only daughter, becomes pregnant while still a teenager and quickly marries a man who turns her out of the house when he discovers that their child is not his. Caddy is described as â€Å"loose† by many readers of the novel. Jason, the mother's favorite, loses his chance at a well-paying job when Caddy's marriage fails and he is reduced to supporting the family by working in a general store. Caddy's daughter, n amed after her brother Quentin, is brought up in the unhappy Compson household although everyone is forbidden to speak her mother's name. Quentin has her revenge upon her Uncle Jason when she steals the $7000 he has gathered by embezzling it from his mother and from funds sent to Quentin by Caddy. The family is supposed to be supported and cared for by a lazy family of black servants, led and held together by the matriarch Dilsey (the only good person I found in the book). Because of its experimental style, â€Å"The Sound and the Fury† presents a challenge for readers.

The 4th Dimension

The journey into the 4th Dimension 4/19/12 Nature of Math The world we live in today is a world of 3-dimensions filled with objects that are zero, one and two dimensions. We all walk around in our 3-dimensional world thinking there could be no other dimensions. But would you believe me if I were to tell you that there is a 4th dimension that lies past our daily experience? The truth is that there is a 4th dimension and it’s not that far away, the crazy thing is that there could be an infinite number of other dimensions out there as well that we will never see and that our minds cannot even begin to fathom. In order for you to fully understand the possibility of a 4th and possibly other dimensions I first need to explain the three prior and how they work. Let’s start with 0 –dimensions. When we classify an object’s dimensions we classify it according to the number of degrees of freedom it has. Therefore a 0-dimensional object would have zero degrees of freed om and would be represented as a point. With 0-dimensions you do not need any information to locate a point within that dimension. This is true because any 0-dimensional object has no length width or height. Now think about taking that point and simply sweeping it to the left like you are drawing a line with the point. By sweeping the point in a line you have just taken a zero dimensional point and created a 1-dimensional line. All of 1-dimensional space is a line. Within a line there is only one degree of freedom, or one direction in which the line is capable of moving. It may seem like a line should be classified as a 2-dimensional object because it can move left and right but really it is based on how many different directions the line travels, which is one left and right. Now think about a line as your street.Your specific house would only be one point on that street and in order to find it you would only need to tell one number in order for it to be found. Now if we take the 1 d imensional object and try and make it into a 2-dimensional object all we have to do is repeat the same process as before, take the line and find a new direction it can move. In the case of the second dimension we are going to take the line and move it vertically (perpendicular to the original line) in a sweeping motion, thus creating a plane. Along with creating a plane you have also just created the 2-dimension.Inside of this world of 2-dimensions you now have the freedom to go left and right and up and down. 2-dimensional objects are all around us, squares, triangles, circles. A 2 dimensional world would be one where everything is flat, people would not be able to see depth or width we could only see what is in front of us in our flat world. Crazy huh? You may have noticed the trend by now on how we move into new dimensions by simply sweeping the current dimension in a new direction. So when we take our 2-dimensional plane and sweep it up and down it will form a cube. This creates the move from 2nd to 3rd dimension. The 3rd dimension is one in which I am assuming you are fairly familiar with considering we live in a 3-dimensional world. Anything in our world that is tangible would be something 3-dimensional, so for example your cat, your favorite pants, a cube. Three dimensional object now have the ability not only to move left and right or up and down on a plane but can also incorporate depth and width into the picture You may now be asking â€Å"well if we live in the 3rd dimension where is the 4th dimension and what is it? † Great Question! We would make the 4th dimension the same way as we have made all of the others.Simply take the third dimension (for our sake lets say a cube) and slide it into a new direction perpendicular to all three previous directions. This may seem tough because we do not know any other directions aside from the three we are confined to in our world. But supposing we drag our 3-d cube in this new direction, then the 3-d cub e now becomes 4-dimensional. We know this is true because in order to locate a point on this new figure we would need four different directions. This shows that there very well could be a 4th dimension out there somewhere. Some people believe that time could be the 4th dimension, but it is still not determined. Also it could mean that there are hundreds of millions of other possibilities for dimensions as well. And while we can’t see the fourth dimension or wrap our minds around it we can now depict it to others. I chose this topic for my presentation because dimensions were my favorite topic of the class this year. They intrigued me, and made me question a lot about the world I perceive and live in. Also dimensions made me want to further pursue math and see how it relates to me in other ways that I didn’t realize.

Fact #2 Marketers who document their processes are 466% more successful than those who don’t (which means success is actually linked to getting organized). Fact #3 Marketers who set goals are 429% more successful than those who don’t (and goal setting doesn’t just happen by accident it takes an organized effort). ^^^Said another way, it’s proven that marketers who proactively organize are more successful than those who constantly fly by the seat of their pants. So before we jump into how to get organized at work, let’s jump into 5 ways you can organize your life. Organized Life Tip #1: Get a good amount of sleep First things first to really feel organized, you need to make sure to always get a good amount of sleep. 😠´ It’s literally impossible to think  clearly when you’re running on a shortage of snoozin hours and WAY too much caffeine. It’s literally impossible to think  clearly when you’re running on a shortage of snoozin hoursTip #2: Rely on a planner Rely on a planner (digital or paper) to help you remember (and show up on time for) every meeting. Plus, writing down important dates + times actually a) makes it easier to remember (because you’ve taken the time to write it down) and b) lets your brain free up important space for idkactually executing a marketing strategy. ;) Tip # 3: Begin your day by knocking out small tasks Begin your day by knocking out small tasks (check your email, put away laundry, unload the dishwasher, etc). You not only get more organized in the process (bonus.) But accomplishing small tasks right away in the morning also means you’re being productive right away.  It’s a feeling of accomplishment that you can carry with you throughout the workday. Tip #4: Schedule regular breaks Managing your mental state at work is KEY to getting organized. You need to give your brain a chance to relax    otherwise you’re going to feel mega-burned out by 3pm (and making decisions when your brain is tired is never awesome). For best results, try to give yourself a break in the morning AND one in the afternoon (about 15 minutes each). Take a walk around the office, around the block, change up your environment by hitting up a coffee shop whatever works best for you and helps you feel refreshed when you get back. Tip #5: Pick up the phone or use chat Pick up the phone or use chat  to communicate with others. Direct communication means you *actually* get answers. Sending emails back and forth is no good for anyone (and usually just results in a cluttered email inbox). Whether you’re checking in on your mom or getting information about an upcoming project at work picking up the phone or sending a chat (Slack or Google Hangouts are great chat tools) makes sure your email inbox doesnt get overloaded (at least as quickly as usual)and you’ll usually get the answer you’re looking for MUCH faster. 👠 To recap: here’s a nice little graphic of the 5 tips you can use to organize your life: Onto the next phase of how to get organized at work†¦ An organized desk. ðŸâ€" ¥ Organized Desk Who doesn’t love a nice and clean desk (and desktop), am I right?. Here are TWO tips to help you maintain a clean, organized workspace.

Case study in ethics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 1

Case study in ethics - Essay Example One of the core things that must be understood with advertising is that it is a representation that appeals to the sensibility aspect of an individual and it is intended for popular consumption. Thus, the popular appeal of a certain depiction that is rendered in an advertisement creates a condition of biased, shallow perception. This kind of perception is highly reductive. In this case study, I shall focus on the issue of the image of Obama in an advertisement that has a certain pedigree of racism and political labeling. This discourse shall be explained and engaged further in the succeeding parts of the paper. At the same time, aside from the construction of the image, the impression derived thereof shall be put into account by looking into the formal elements that make up the image. At the same time, there is also a need to clearly assess why the image creates an impression through certain sensibilities, which are political, cultural and sociological in nature and must be discussed in conjunction with the signs that parts of images create for the spectator to gaze. Looking at the elements of the image, Obama’s image is presented with sickle and hammer, which are embodiments of communism (Empty Suit, â€Å"Image†). Another crucial thing to look at the image is the use of the terms â€Å"somewhere in Kenya a village is missing its idiot Obama† (Empty Suit, â€Å"Image†). Together with the image comes the face of Obama, smiling and wearing formal attire that befits the campaigning needed for the elections. The advertisement has these elements that evoke a totally different level of problematic propositions and discourses of representation. To understand the points to be raised in this paper, there is a need to understand that the context of presidential elections must be duly considered since this defines how the image works and creates a certain

American Nurses Association Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

American Nurses Association - Essay Example They include, fostering high standards of nursing practice, lobbying the Congress and the healthcare regulatory agencies on such issues that re capable of affecting nurses and the public, protecting both the positive and realistic view if nurses and promoting and protecting the right of nurses at the workplace. The ANA organization addresses various issues including those dealing with leadership, nursing quality, staffing, compensation, professional standards and improving nursing practice, which are all under nursing practice. On the other hand, the association also handles ethical issues such as the end of life, code of ethics as well as courage and distress. Looking at staffing, for example, there are various issues that the association is addressing. The association acknowledges that staffing issues are those of going concern that affects both the nurses as well as the patients being served. The nurse-to-patient ratio usually determines the satisfaction level of the patients taken care of by the nurses. As such, the higher the ratio is, the more satisfied the patients usually are. Sometimes, when the ratio of nurses to patients is low, the patients may have to stay longer in the hospital waiting to receive services. This increase in the length of stay in the hospital has a lot of losses to the patient. One such loss is that the patient may stay longer to contract new infections, and the hospital bill will also be higher when a patient stays longer in the hospital.

The impact of intelligence on foreign policy Essay

The impact of intelligence on foreign policy - Essay Example It is a rationally accepted fact that no subject in the world is as complex as foreign affairs and hence to devise a foreign policy. The reason lays with the fact that in foreign policy making decisions, the policy makers have to deal not just with natural facts such as natural disasters and disease but also with social facts such as human beings, who change their minds and behave intuitively and creatively. Natural facts behave according to some well defined natural phenomenon or law and they always obey the same course of action while human behaviors and interests are the most unpredictable. Further, social facts are embedded in different cultures. People from different cultures interpret the same facts differently. Individual human beings and diverse cultures create multiple meanings from the same set of facts. Given this enormous complexity, how does an individual make any sense at all out of international affairs? Hence intuitively even a common observer of international events can guess that a foreign policy decisions are not only the result of multiple considerations and interests but also significantly manipulated by these considerations and interests. Substantial recent progress has been made towards understanding foreign policy making decisions. International relations theory has long refused to consider the complexity of international phenomena and it has attempted to simplify the foreign policy process in order to build an elegant causal theory. ... timely analysis needed to devise their policy options, to reach critical decisions and to implement the final policy mandates. Unless this process is well dealt with, the other moves made by intelligence to collect and analyze information might well be wasted. Since the role and impact of intelligence materials are very difficult to analyze, because of both confidentiality and intangible or definitional problems hence the key question rises how closely intelligence producers' work influences the policymakers to maintain and achieve their objective. A simple guideline and insight was given by Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of state. According to him the role of intelligence in foreign policy is only to pave a way in making national policy. "Anyone concerned with national policy must have a profound understanding interest in making sure that intelligence guides and does not follow national policy2". Foreign policy is considered as the result of a struggle among the decision- makers' goals and constraints. The decision maker's capacity to further his objectives will be dependent on the means at his disposal and the constraints he faces - such as the relative strength of other political actors trying to influence foreign policy. If a decision- maker is constrained by the demands of political stability, foreign policy will be more reactive rather than proactive, in the sense that it will seek to satisfy the demands of governance rather than state power. The collapse of the Soviet Union and hence the end of cold war totally changed the geopolitical environment in which the intelligence community operates. Although nuclear forces in the former Soviet Union

Heroic essay Essay Example for Free

Heroic essay Essay â€Å"A mother’s happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the  past in the guise of fond memories.† The most important and beautiful person in everyone’s  world is our moms. They are the one who carry us for about 10 months without any sighs or  complaints. Most moms do their best to be a great role model for their children, or even others;  however, some of them can give up so easily that they leave their family scarred for life. My  mom also belongs to one of these strong, compassionate and understanding moms. She is a  inspiring hero in my life because she is supportive for other family members, and is determined  for our family to become the best mother.  My mother illustrated her protection as a best assistance through her life to family  members. Especially for me, I was first-born child for her so that she abetted me anytime and  anywhere I went. For example, when I was in the kindergarten, she left a post-it note on the back  seat of my bicycle every day. She always used to say that â€Å"No matter what bad things happen to  you, I always believe that you can handle it because you are my son. I love you.† My mom wrote  this kind of letter differently every day. It was so shameful at first that I hid it as soon as I  noticed that there is a tiny yellow paper on the seat. I did not understand why she wrote this  especially only for me. After she left our family, I started to realize that how important these  post-it notes were. Although she was not always there for me, and sometimes scolded me, she  supported, encouraged and took cafà © of me anywhere I went, and anything I did. According to  her last post-it which was 26 days before she left, â€Å"I know you have become much mature now,  but I am not really sure about your inside. Don’t you have to run diligently for the future as there  have been some delays in your life? You should know that finding out your goal is always first. I  believe you, and hope you can think and behave more independently.†Ã‚  My mother was the only person I know who did not give up anything she started or  decided, and sacrificed her life for other family members. My mom used to keep doing  something secretly as the way how my grandma did although there was an obstacle ahead. For  instance, she did not tell anyone that she became more illness because she was concerned that  anyone who knew about this would waste of his time worrying about her; she wished that she  did not want to be others’ obstacles. While my mom was staying at Korea to cure her illness, she  once said, â€Å"Do never waste your time tearing because of me. This is my life I chose, and have to  bear. Even though something worse occurs to me, you just have to ignore it and keep moving for  your future.† I could not give up for her as my mom did not give up receiving treatments for  cancer in Korean, although it caused losing her weight a lot, and made her worse, This was a  huge hindrance for my family because if my mom was not able to come to Canada again, we  would not receive our PR, and live here anymore. However, ignoring what her doctor’s saying,  she came back for us to maintain our life in Canada. We all knew that she would not live longer  than at least a year. However, her life was not that long. My mom was determined after she had  morphine in the hospice. She fell asleep so deeply that she could not move and talk. About a few  minutes before she died, my mother tried as hard as she could to open her eyes; at last, she did  not open them, but what only she could at that time was crying. Only my family recognized her  tear and perseverance which probably she desired to show us even until the end. We had to say,  although she was determined, and did not want leave us, â€Å"You can go now. We will not bother  you anymore; we have seen that you do not want to give up even now. You just have to rest in  peace. Thank you for everything you have done so far. You were determined enough to become  the best mother in the world.† After we said this, she started to give up her life as she did not  want to be an obstacle for our family.  . Can all mothers overcome this circumstance and assist others as what my mother did?  Most moms probably are able to be supportive to their family members and perseverance on  what they have to face. My mom was not only a mother to our family but she also became the  best mother as she showed us her encouragement, support to others and determination what she  wished to be done. My mother illustrated how much she could help and believe in me no matter  what happens between us; moreover, my mom did not give up what she started although any  hindrances, which seemed painful, challenging and complicated, occurred to her. Therefore, my  mom is my hero who inspired me as she was abetting and determined.
